Even if you have them in compressed as jpg's you need to resize them (sometimes called resampling depending on your software) to a reasonable size. Most raw images from a digital camera or from a scanner have way more pixels than a monitor can display or the human eye can see.they is they is
Re-size them to about 800x600 or 640x400 and then save them as jpg.
