• M-16 Qualification

This applies more to the military folks here, but I just got back from re-qualifying on it. I don't know what the other branches require, but to be qualified in the AF, I needed to hit the targets 15 times out of 40 shots. To get marksman, you need to make 35. I made 33. I am a little annoyed about that. I was wondering how the rest of you guys did (viper, 3.4, etc.) Also, what's everybody's favorite position (for firing ). At least I did better than when I was in basic (17 out of 40  )

for the army its 23 out of 40. In basic with a fever of 103F and just getting out of the hospitle I hit 23. A few months ago I qualified with I think 30. My best position in in the foxhole supported. I can hit the 300m 3/4 of the time. in the prone unsupported I can't hit anything past the 200m mark.

I have gotten 33 once. I like to lay down, I forget what fancy name they have for it, but I'm alot more steady then.

My friend in the Navy is a weapons specialist or something... he's training with new guns all the time I will have to ask him what he can do.

With the barrel that I had to use (along with the crappy gun in the AF) I hit 24. But I also lost 3 shots since the got jammed in the gun. I ejected them and was told to either put them back in and fire, or lose a shot... The damn casing was bent. Their was no way I was going to put that back in the gun... I like my hands and face...

I'm a Marksman, and if I remember correctly I got 32 out of 40. Prone is the only position we've gotten to shoot from.

My friend got 37, just barely missed Expert.

I always wanted to be a jar head but I got married and had kids. Not a great life for a family IMO. I have the highest respect you guy who did join the service.

I love shooting my DPMS AR. Here are some of my groups at 100 yards:

Unfortunately, my friend and I aren't in the Army yet. ROTC, all the fun without being shot at :D We even played paintball.

                          "breath control and site picture"

I fired 34, 35, and 36's consistently after I mastered my breathing. One thing that helped a lot was to wrap the the sling around my left hand close to the front sling bracket, and pull the 16 hard into my shoulder. I then let out half of my breath and paused at my body's natural pausing level, aimed and applied even pressure to the trigger with the tip of my firing finger. Don't think about the weapon firing, just concentrate on the taget and the site picture.
