  • Time to say goodbye

Well over the past few months i have slowly begun to doubt my car. Poor gas mileage and being a poor college student i think im goin to have to trade in my car and get something different. I love this car more than anything in the world...well shes number 2 after my girl, but i do not want to get rid of her but its time. I have no clue what to get...i need something with a kick but good on gas mileage and insurance...im 19 and im clueless. I havent posted much since being a member but i figured if i get a new car i wont be around to much anymore. I just wanted to say thanks to all those who have helped me out. Oh yea by the way..in a little while after it gets sold i will be selling a few things...so keep updated in the for sale section. Peace

        You already have kick.
Get a good tune up to increase your gas mileage.
Get an older family member on your insurance to be the primary driver on the Camaro.

If it still doesn't appeal to you other than the fact you will lose money on the trade in, I hope you find a good used car.

        Good luck.

I know what you mean about bad mileage and I was thinking of selling my car too. But I got my gas mileage issues worked out (replaced o2 sensors) and it's getting great mileage now. Don't give up man, you've already got a nice reliable car with some kick so why get rid of a perfectly good car? Stick with the six.

man im tryin to stick with it..but with school payments and gas its getting hard. I pay 400 dollars a month for my car payment and insurance and my cell and its killing me. Dont get me wrong i absolutely love my car and everything has been changed recently..clean air filter, pcv, plugs and wires..all o2 sensors changed when i put my headers on and i have a 195 degree stat...so i just do alot of driving and running erands...right now this isnt the car for me moneywise. Its going to be hard to get rid of this car...riding during the summer with the t-tops off and just cruising....its gonna be hard

Save those headers for me :D

But seriously.. what I suggest to everyone who wants kick and EXTREME gas mileage -- get a Golf or Jetta TDI. I think golfs look pretty good, and either version is a turbocharged diesel. You will run FOREVER using one single tank of gas.

But try to keep the V6 FBody pride!

I get 33mpg in my cammed v6. i prolly have just shy of 275hp at the flywheel. (I said flywheel, not Rwhp, so don't flame me).

Honestly, unless you have a lead foot, you won't do much better than 33mpg unless you buy a brand new 2004 model car, which will cost more than your current car anyways.

Don't trust the EPA fuel ratings on new cars. Those numbers mean nothing. Especially on a used car.

I mean right now i think the wisest thing to do is to trade my car in and get something that is a college student car and what not, what exactly i dont know...but i was thinking jetta or golf or something. Im a sophomore in college right now...i figure i trade in the v6 and get thru college and then look for a 2002 ls1 or something. This is my first f-body but it wont be my last thats for sure. The parts im going to sell is a set of euros which can be seen on my website, my grille, clearn corners and i have a set of rims and tires that i will need to get rid of. But thanks for the support and everything i really wish i didnt come down to this..but college is more important right now

perhaps finding a beater for a few hundred bucks and keeping the maro back home. i get pretty good gas mileage. on the interstate it went up close or a little above 30. city driving it's alot different than that tho ;) . it really depends on your driving style, stay around the speed limit, dont revv it alot, and dont pedal to the metal to get there. just take it easy and lax off on it. i love my baby, when i go to college i'll be riding in a jeep(worse gas mileage). it'll help out in insurance some, go places the maro wont, and has extra room.

i'd ride an old skool civic cvcc.... we're talking like a 1st gen civic here, lol.

We hate to see you go. 400 dollars a month is steep... though I would go to lengths to keep it. Think about it: you won't get much on trade-in(if you still owe money on the car's financing), you'll lose out a lot. Plus, if you want anything with kick you'll probably get the same or worse gas milage.

I was going to get rid of my Bird, but, it's cheaper for me to just make a loan, change the front bumper and right fender(dent), get a wingswest kit, and paint it. Plus I'd still have money to play with on my car.

                              Whatever you do, good luck!
