  • The Ford Exploder has passed....

We had snow this week - I popped the Exploder into 4WD - heard a slightly odd sound and spent the entire drive home slipping and sliding.

My wife stood at the front door and watched me TRY and reverse into our driveway.... I just spun cause all I had was 2WD. I walked into the house and wifey said, time for a new truck

2001 Ford Exploder with 149,000 miles (needs a timing chain so it is a grenade).

We drove out to PA and came home in this:

    2007 Grand Cherokee SRT8
    K&N cold air
    BB Tri Flow cat back
    Rear entertainment package
    Automatic starter
    Heated seats
    Navi
    Rear back up camera
    Parking guideance

I'm getting mid 15 MPG around town and low 18's on the highway.

Basically, same gas mileage as the Exploder.

With the intake and cat back it should make about 450 HP.

    Yay!

Wifey said I can get a tuner too! MORE power!

Last I saw, the 6.1 wasnt tunable.. but definitely good buy. Looks real clean.

It's the 6.4L that is not tunable.

Hell yes. Very nice choice! Is that a 4wd or 2wd?

That's only marginally worse than the mileage I get in my Grand Cherokee and it's only a 235 hp V8 :(

sweet find man, i'm sure you'll love it!

jump on the SRT forums and let the modding begin. I had my TBSS less than a day before I started modding...it's addictive on these beast machines.

any plans for mods or is a light bolt-on DD your plan? those engines and the 6.0 in the SS respond REALLY well to headers/cam/tuning, completely changes the truck and gives great gains.

cosmetics? it's begging for some niteshades on the tails/3rd brake/reflectors and some tint.

either way, sweet whip man. congrats

Re: The Ford Exploder has passed....

I learned that Mopar makes a trailer hitch set up and cat back specifically designed for the trailer hitch so the SRT8 can tow... if I wanted.

                  It's 4WD all the time.

As for mod's - it has a cold air kit and cat back now.

I plan on adding the following:
                  Tune (something called infinity?)
                  Catch can
Royal purple fluids (oil, front/ rear diff, transfer case, transmission)

Non performance stuff - I'd also like to get a rear cargo cover, hook up satelite radio, replace the little antenna w/ a full sized one and replace a metal brace that goes to the front ground effects (it is bent)

After that... I'm unsure because the intent behind this jeep is for the snow. We shall see..... but this thing is REALLY growing on me!

Granted, I took a 17 second v6 f body and got it to 12.1 spinning..... just imagine what I could do with this jeep?!?!?!?!!?

Sigh, I'm not. Neurosurgeon says no more.

But, I'm a stubborn PITA.... so you never know ;) I need to start wearing the helmet around the house and see how I do.
