How can you fight something you know you messed up on? That really makes no sense.
You can fight any ticket, you're better off going to court and taking your chances:tup:, I don't know the laws where you are, but here quite often the cop doesn't even show up and the ticket is thrown out. We also have much more strict laws. If you're caught going 50 km/h over the speed limit it is considered street racing and your car is impounded immediately, regardless of whether you were actually racing or not.

I tried... said yes sir no sir etc. No arguments, and I simply said that I had messed up even though I live 3 miles from where it happened and I knew the speed limit. I was even downshifting because it drops to 45 about 200 ft past there...
Canadian, I understand that. But I'm just saying why fight it when you know you messed up? Just to get out of the fine?
To answer the original question, nope. I just got my first ticket last Monday doing 85 in a 70. I hit it for about 2 seconds driving back to school from an A7X concert at 8:30 in the morning. I was passing a truck that was questionable and that I didn't want to get stuck behind or near. At least 2 minutes later, the cop was up my *** and I didn't even notice till my buddy said something to me. He also got me for tint... I had the shop put on 20% but it registered as 4% :omg: Whatever. **** happens. I'm getting them lowered/doing something about it.
Before that, I was driving to the lake with my family and got pulled over doing 55... in a 55. The dude took my license and registration and came back to the car saying, "Sir, I'm going to give you a verbal warning." Dumbass didn't know where his speed limit signs were. I thought that was funny.

Because contrary to what you've been told, there is no crime in speeding. See, when a cop turns on hits lights, hes declaring an emergency. There is no emergency. He then is accepting his wages under false pretenses, and an imposter in his office.
And cops aren't the bad guys either, there just trained wrong. Traffic, "laws" aren't really Laws. There Torts and Acts, which you, the govern, have to consent to. I'm not gunna go into this too much. Theres plenty of tricks to get out of this. Ask the Officer, in court, if he had a valid, CAUSE of REASON to pull you over. Then ask him, How many points are on a valid CAUSE of REASON. Impeach the witness(cop) and its dismissed. Now I am sure alot of people will call BS. Just remember, you have the RIGHT TO TRAVEL, and Common Law(garunteed under article 6, paragraph 1 of the Constitution) Trumps any traffic tort, act, or civil law.
I was going 50 in a 35 (speeding enough to deserve a ticket) but what happened is the cop was driving slammed on the brakes almost got rear ended just to radar me.
I wouldn't say all , but some are power happy to right tickets.

Our legal system allows you to contest this ticket. What makes no sense? You got a ticket. You can fight it and win, easily. Worst case without an attorney you can just go and ask nicely for a probation of some sort, which is EXTREMELY common. In more rural jurisdictions where the court is less formal (Houston is fairly formal for traffic) the cop acting as the DA will just pull you aside and offer it when you're there. Why not fight it? Who cares if you messed up or not? I've always used a good traffic lawyer and I've had a lot of tickets, all of which have been dismissed regardless of my actual "guilt".
You were cited for essentially a victimless crime since no one was hurt by your actions. Do you actually feel your speed was excessive and endangering others? You said other people were driving faster, you were probably driving with the flow of traffic. Driving slower would have been more dangerous. How do you know your speedometer was right? How do you know the cop's radar was right? Maybe you're not even guilty :P. Also calling your insurance was probably not the smartest idea :-/ and it's unlikely anyone on the phone was able to truly tell you how this affects your insurance, being that they aren't underwriters.

Though he didn't cite you for speeding in the 45, his location alone may get this ticket thrown out in court if you have an attorney. Not sure about how that works in your state though.

Unless it's really going to cost you more to go to court than to pay the ticket (and possibly the increased insurance), you should go to court (and FWIW, this is coming from someone who is old enough to be your dad). If this is your first offense, the judge may very well throw it out, or at least reduce the charge to a non-points violation. He may give you the chance to go take a driver's course and then drop the charges. The officer might not show up for court, and the case could be dismissed (although that's not a guarantee - ask me how I know).
If CO is like VA, you're going to pay court costs whether you go or not, and the fine shouldn't be any more if you go to court or not, so it shouldn't cost any more to go to court than to just pay the ticket. The only excuse I could see for not going is that you have a job that you can't take time off from, or that pays you double what the fine is for the 2 hours you'll need to take off to go to court.
Also, if you really feel that driving 6mph over the limit means you "messed up", you really need to get a grip on reality. I drive to work from Fredericksburg VA into DC every day, 57 miles one way, up one of the busiest stretches of I95 there is. The average speed of the traffic is 75-78mph (65mph limit), and I can't count the number of times I've gotten behind state troopers going 75+ in traffic. That's because they know something that isn't taught in driver's schools - that you are actually safer going the prevailing speed of the traffic around you than you are doing the (slower) speed limit. If you were going the same speed as the people around you, and were not driving erratically, you were driving more safely than the guy in the left lane who was doing exactly the speed limit, and forcing people to pass him on the right. Of course, that won't fly in court, since they also can't admit that exceeding the speed limit is ok, but I would bet if you told the judge you were just keeping the pace of the cars around you he may very well look for a way to cut you some slack. Or not...but you'll never know if you don't go to court.

On edit, I'll add this one last thing; in the 3-1/2 years that I've had my Camaro I've gotten 3 speeding tickets. All were for going 15+ mph over the limit, all were legitimate, and all were either reduced to non-moving voilations or dismissed. FWIW

Ouch... I can't think of a worse place to speed than VA :-(, plus radar detectors and lidar jammers are illegal. The lidar (laser) jammers will be illegal in Texas soon too, the law just passed. That doesn't worry me much since I always JTK (jam then kill) my jammer once I've slowed down allowing the cop to get a speed reading. Radar being illegal really sucks though, since I like using my V1 due to it's raw sensitivity, but it's not immune to Sprectre radar detector detectors.
If radar detectors became illegal here i'd have to start using Escort products like the Redline, which aren't as sensitive. Escort and Beltronics (same company, often referred to as Belscort for that reason) make the only stuff that works against Sprectre. I know Cobras, Rocky Mountain Radar and a few other **** brands claim to be immune on some/all of their products, but it's all lies. RMR just takes $10 chinese radar detectors and puts stickers on em and sells em for $200+ in magazines. Cobra's look pretty cool, they are better than RMR, but that's about it.
Sorry to say, but you were speeding and that's the consequence. Good thing is you already understand that.
Since it's such a minimal ticket, you're better off showing up at court and admitting guilt. I had a friend that just went through this. He was popped for going 81 in a 70 with the flow of traffic. Mandatory appearance and he got off with a $150 ticket, a morning in defensive driving course, and a $35 fee for the course. The points won't show up on this record. That's nothing for a level two speeding ticket (1-10, 11-19, 20+ over) If he had tried to fight it, it would've been a minimum of $350 for the court fee and the cost of the ticket and defensive driving course.

You're always better off fighting it if you have a competent attorney. I've never had a single ticket that was not dismissed with the attorneys I've used. I've had very high speed tickets dismissed without problem. However if you won't use a good attorney then you're definitely right, he should just plea not guilty, mail off the ticket, go to court and beg for/agree to a lesser charger, class or probation.
