  • Problems with sleeping...

It's 8:37 a.m. and I'm at work on break. I feel like falling over and going to sleep.. I maybe got a grand total of 3-4 hours last night. I've been working days from 7:00a-3p since October and for some reason I'm still not used to it. I normally go to bed around 9:30p and wake up at 5:30a.. I lay there and lay there for sometimes an hour, sometimes a couple of hours before I fall asleep.

I'm wondering if I have a sleeping disorder. My thoughts usually race throughout evening hours and I'm always trying to get stuff done. It's probably time to visit the doctor...

Last night I kept thinking about my car. I never usually do that...

Nyquil usually helps me with that.. If I lay in bed for more than 20-25 minutes before I fall asleep, I say fawk it and go drink up some nyquil.

I go to bed at 9 and get up a 4:15. No much sleep, so when the next night rolls around, i usually have no problem sleeping. :)

hey man, seriously, get some melatonin. It works great and can be bought at any walgreens/drug store. Its a medicine that helps you get tired before bed, works awesome and have been using it for years

Try going to bed an hour later. Why would anyone lay there for a few hours awake in the dark?

Watch the diet, especially in the evening. Caffeine intake during the day soda, coffee, tea, chocolate and even some aspirin has caffeine. Salt will increase blood pressure. Sugar can also put you in hyper mood. If you take any vitimins or supplements/energy drinks watch out for vitimin B'. I had to stop taking 5-hour energy spray because the vitimin B gave me too much energy. Think about what you been eating, drinking when these sleepless nights started. Also some good exercise before bedtime is good.

Thank you for all of the advice. Normally I won't eat after 7:00pm and last night we had a DiGiorno pizza around 7:30. It was salty. I did not know that salt would elevate blood pressure.. that would explain why I felt my heart racing.

I usually have an energy drink (Monster) in the morning on my way to work. Even if I had that beverage 15 hours before bed, it can still effect me?

Sleep deprivation is a serious matter. Go see a specialist.

I saw a school bus driver weave in front of me. I thought she was avoiding a pothole or texting behind the wheel but as soon as I raced around her I checked my rear view mirror only to see her yawning with a bus full of innocent kids!

Nobody gets enough sleep in this ultracharged work/cubicle environment. More work for less pay. Take a day off to pay yourself some decent sleep.

Can't take a day off? Call in sick and get paid. :)

I don't drink coffee or energy drinks. My energy comes from decent nights rest and a morning walk. Revs me up for sure with good levels of oxygen in the blood.

I only get 4-6 hours a night myself, usually in bed by 9-11pm, wake up at 3am. Its natural for me for some reason, but it will catch up with me about once a month where I sleep for 10 hours straight. But I CANNOT be sweating balls trying to sleep either. I'll have a window open or cracked even in the winter, and during the summer, the AC is on full blast ($300 electric bills; could care less). Also cannot sleep with a comforter, they're just too heavy and bulky.

try eating some toast or bananas a little bit before bed, both are supposed to release melatonin in your body to help you get to sleep.

im lucky if i get 4 hours a night during the week, its not unheard of for me to get 1-2 hours and work all day, around the middle of the month i crash for 2 days and wind up spending 14-15 hours a day sleeping.

I don't know if having an energy drink could effect your sleeping. Depends on what's in it. Everyone is different. I know people that can drink coffee before they go to bed with no problems. If I did that I would be flying and peeing all night. Try giving it up for a week or two and see what happens.

Salt or smoking will bump your blood pressure pretty good, but shouldn't have a huge effect of pulse. The caffeine on the other hand will. I would HIGHLY suggest to stop drinking Monster's at any time of day, they're terrible for your heart and health. The most caffeine I generally drink a day is a 20 oz Dr. Pepper in the morning. I NEVER drink any caffeine after 3pm on a work night, I simply won't sleep if I do. Made that mistake several times when I was 19-20 years old and was up for 30+ hours straight. But I would stop with the Monsters....

I myself have pretty bad insomnia. Layed down to go to sleep at 11 last night finally fell asleep at 3:30 and had to wake up at 7. That's how most of my nights go though. Sleep deprivation is good times when you have to sit behind a desk and deal with stupid people.

The best things I've found are nyquil shots, a good alcohol induced sleep (not really but it lays me out) or if I'm really needing sleep a sleeping pill with a nyquil chaser. The pills usually takes 3-4 hours so the nyquil gets me going and the pill takes over.

Other thing that was said about melatonin, I just read an article recently on Yahoo about those things, here http://health.yahoo.net/caring/5-foo...help-you-sleep
