  • Why haven't you swapped yet?

Why aren't there more LSx swaps in here? Junkyard 5.3's are going for under $500, and a TON of people have completed swaps for under $1500 bucks. So let's hear it.

I personally couldn't give 2 sh!ts about how fast my car is. Yeah, I enjoy having some "pep." No, I don't need 2 extra cylinders to convince myself I'm a man.

I might be starting a 3.8-A4 to LS1-M6 pretty soon. Hopefully within the next month. I need to get it done before I go to college and I already have the donor.

That's where we differ. You drive your car, as a car. I race mine.

Does racing your super car make you any more of a man then a regular guy just driving his?

I would disagree that a TON of people have completed the swap for under $1500 unless they bought a spare car to snag the parts off of for $1500.

I actually had this convo with Pace about a month an a half ago, the low costs of swapping a 5.3l in. If I had another car to tinker around with, and steady employment for what I was trained in, I would have started this project already.

Its really not nearly as expensive in comparison to an LSx swap. 5.3l's are a dime a dozen, I remember looking for one for ****s and giggles a few weeks ago, came across several for around the $500 range.

I am just finishing up rebuilding my 3.8 and after adding up how much I've spent, I really regret not just doing the swap...

I felt the same way, sort of, when I finished mine last year. I could've bought my car again at the end, but there was a reason behind keeping the stock block. Finishing it up provided the interesting and uniqueness I was looking for. Besides, my '79 Z has the ground pounding and speed I sometimes need to feel (and hear) and soon she'll be raging in the 1320 again. All said and done, I probably have an obsession with improving EVERYTHING. Even my Explorer. Just can't leave things the way they are, I guess, but no. Never thought twice about turning the 'Bird to an 8.

Next month, she'll be dynoed and I get to see what my ideas did. Not looking for earth shattering, but happy in the fact that I more or less had to create it (or it felt like I did, after chasing certain parts down). The 6 was a challenge. Primarily coming on to this website turned an average, ordinary, sun and salt-bleached Firebird, into a an onyx-like jewel that fools a lot of people out there, thinking it's an 8.

Actually it grew 10, but I cut 5 off cause his mom was complaining!

Currently working toward getting mine started. I'm still doing a lot of research, but have started buying smaller parts. My goal is to have it all built and ready to go in the car by this next summer. But that might be a bit optimistic.

Like I said then... if I had a second F-body, I'd do a 5.3 turbo build in a heart beat. LS6 intake, ZO6 cam, with some new valve springs and that'd make a nasty combo with boost. If the motor blows, there's a ton of them in the junkyards for cheap.
