lol vortech truck??

raced again....ok i just raced this guy i know from school,he known for his bs. he has this peice of **** truck. anyways ive seen the enigine he says its a vortech v6?? ive never seen one but its says vortech on it so whatever. i raced from a stop until 70 without stalling the car(no time) i didnt even spin a little cuz i didnt think he was gunna do it so i take off barely....he floors it so i was like ok so do i. immediatly i just caught him and raped him by at least 4 cars and he got the jump lol. but its pretty funny listening to this redneck talking about how fast his truck is and then getting his *** handed to him. but it was only a truck still :(

some of the fastest cars i have seen are trucks....my buddy had a lightening all built up that ran 12.5 all day long...with 23" CHROME rims!

he has the 4.3 vortec motor which comes in blazers, extremes and some others....some of them can be fast and will give you a run...i believe it likes 190 hp and 240 ft. lbs/ torque??? maybe im wrong but its somewhere around there

It was probably a 4.3 vortech. I think it's funny when trucks pick on cars. Especially when they lose. This Tundra was messing with me a while back. Some kid driving. Had me laughing for a while

Your buddy has a FORD Lightening with a CHEVY motor in it? He pulled out the supercharged 5.4 V8, to drop in a 4.3 V6?

Those vortech motors can be really mean though. My buddy has 93 Typhoon with a 4.3 Turboed Vortech and that thing hauls a$$!!

One of my buddies has an xtreme truck with a 4.3 vortech.. intake exhaust and a 75 dry shot and it runs mid 14s

they can be quick but they're pretty slow stock

the reason the ford lightening is fast is because it has a supercharged 5.4ltr v8... duh, its gonna be quick, could be alot faster too(more boost)

i almost bought a vortec v6 truck, my friend has a vortec v8 silverado
the only thing vortec about it is the heads

his infact WAS a 4.8 cause it said it right on the motor and he swapped out the stock supercharger with an after market one with pullies....truck dynoed over 500 RWHP

Wrong. 1st gen lightnings came with Windsor NA 351's and 2nd gens only come with the 5.4 supercharged V8.

If you friend has a 4.8 then it was swapped. My bro is a Lightning fanatic and has a 1st gen.

Thats pretty sweet that one you are talking about has 500 hp to the ground though! Very impressive. :eek:

it was swapped...he blew the first one and had this crate one built up with all high performance parts tp handle 1000 Hp at the crank...it was a beast

4.8 is a GM motor. You're thinking 4.6 unless its got an over-bore to it.


1993-1995 SVT Lightnings were ALL 351w V8 trucks.

1999-2004 SVT Lightnings were ALL 5.4 SOHC Supercharged V8 trucks.

All SVT Lightnings were automatics.

97+ F-150s came with either a 4.2 V6, 4.6 V8, or 5.4 V8 N/A - Lightnings were the only ones to get the 5.4SC'd V8.

96-Earlier F-150s had either a 300ci Straight-6, a 302ci V8, or a 351w V8 - more of them had a 302 than 351. What set the Lightning apart was its trans, rearend, suspension, some internal motor differences, exhaust, appearance, interior, etc etc...




It's Vortec - Not Vortech (vortech = supercharger company)

The Vortec head-design is purely GM, has been around for quite a few years.

Sy/Ty trucks NEVER came with Vortec V6s - infact, they were using a 4.3 V6 not very different than the 4.3 TBI used in the standard S-trucks. Different internals, different programming.

vortech is a supercharger brand.. but it is not limited to printing on only supercharged vechiles

my brother has a chevy xtreme and one of my buddies has an xtreme truck both have votech printed in the engine bay.. i pulled an xtreme on ebay up for a quick reference

Matt G, it says VorteC... not VorteCH... ;) I have a 1999 S-10 ZR2 for a daily beater. Have owned 2 other S-Trucks, as well as have had many in my family. I know all about what it says under the hood, lol.



As for Sy/Ty's having Vortec motors, when there is no difference in the heads where the new Vortec 4.3 is truely unique. The sy/ty site is kind of wrong in calling it a "vortec V6" --- the Sy/Ty, S-10, Blazer, Sonoma, Jimmy... They use the same LB4 heads and block. LB4 being the engine code for the TBI 4.3 V6.

(Fullsize V6 & S-Trucks) 93 C,K,S 4.3L TBI (LB4 engine)
(Sy/Ty) 91-93 4.3L V6 Turbo (LB4 engine)

L35 heads (CPI 4.3 V6, uncommon) out-flow LB4 heads, and Vortec heads (94+ Vortec V6) will outflow both L35 & LB4. BUT the L35 heads are a direct bolt on where the Vortec heads are not ;)

The only reason they probably call it a Vortec V6 on the sy/ty site is that they don't want to call it TBI and it uses a slightly different intake manifold design... But when it comes down to it, the 4.3 TBI & The Turbo 4.3 are not really different at all aside from internals :)
