Ok during the end of winter i made a post about how my buddy was talking all this smack to me about how his GT v6 6 speed tiburon would beat me when i had my 3.73's and intake, exhaust, and nitrous on. Anyways we raced before when i just had exhaust and his was completly stock...from a roll it was pretty close but from a dead stop he killed me (i had 3.08's)...anyways we raced the other night because i just got my 3.73's installed. He has a AEM cold air intake, Nology hot wires and yoshimura catback exhaust. i have the gears, intake and exhaust (nitrous is empty). We started from 65 (my speedomoter said 85 tho cause of the gears and my rims and the speedlimiter shuts me off at 118). when we went it was close for like 2 seconds then he started to pull on me. Now one of the biggest reasons i got my gears is because i thought maybe i could pull on him. I was told that after tuning i will notice a way bigger difference with everything and it will make my car faster. Is this true? what else do i need to do to beat this lousy tiburon. Next we are gonna run from a dead stop so i can see how i do there.

The gears should make a bigger difference from a dig, but a tune will definatly help out.

wow.. i'm suprised you lost to a tiburon GT... i raced 2 of them while i had my bird and smoked them both.. do you have an auto or 5 speed?

if you have an auto look into buying a shift kit..
get some nitrous in that bottle and race him again.

i'm not sure if TSP can adjust shift points or not.. but ask them when ever your sending it out. I know HP Tuners allows you to adjust and manage the shift points in an auto camaro/firebird

Well, first off. You need to be racing from a dig. Racing from a roll is pointless because the 3.8 has no upper end power. 90% of my races in my camaro, I won from a stop.

RWD and gears will really shine from a stop.

BTW, if you get a tune, you want to tune for nitrous, so its probably not gonna help you at all NA. An NA tune will advance the timing, which means as soon as you spray

With a nitrous tune, you'll want to retard the timing. And mail order tunes suck. Get a dyno tune.

They are usually like $100 bucks an hour. I dunno how all of them do it, but we get a family discount cuz we take my dads Chevelle, Corvette, my brothers Lightning and my car. When we bring a lot of cars like that its only $80 per hour.

Something you may want to consider is, your car is still set for your stock gears. Your PCM is delaying shifting, and shifting at the wrong RPM. Thus reducing performance. Get it caliberated for your gears and you should walk him, I beat like 5 tiburons already.

I'd lighten up the car a little too... weight reduction. Are you powerbraking from the start? If not, practice your launch on the side.

no i havent raced him from a dead stop yet...however i am horrible at launching my car from a dead stop...i either spin to all hell or cant keep the rpms up...any advice??

keep in mind i also have chrome 18's....when i run at the track he wants to run me there which i will throw my stock 16's on and put the air pressure to about 42 psi or lower??

also what can i do for weight reduction?? i have removed my spare tire and jack and where my t-tops go i have my custom sub box and stuff....

Your tire pressure needs to be way lower when you're dragging. I run like 22-25PSI when I race at the track.

Way lower than 42 psi in the tires at the track. That is really high and will net you a horrible 60'. As for weight reduction, the back seats are easy to get out. To get your launch better, practice practice practice. You just gotta find what works best. Are you a M5 or A4?
