    C5 vrs SS camaro

    well it's been pretty dead in here so I thought Id post my first race...

    This was back in May of 2004...I had just traded in my powerdyned 1998 V6 camaro for a white 2004 coupe C5...

    I thought that from 0-40 mph they felt about the same power wise but after 40 mph the c5 had the clear advantage...

    Well im driving on the interstate about 2 weeks after buying the car and I see a white SS camaro pulling up fast on my white coupe...

    MY HEART SKIPS A BEAT....THE ALMIGHTY SS CAMARO WANTED TO RACE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    After 2 years of being on this board, building my V6 and always hearing about how fast the SS camaro was....I totaly forgot I was driving a C5 for a second and got intimidated....

    He pulls to my right with us both doing around 70 mph and he throws me some revs...

    I wanted to return the favor but my car is an auto....

    So I just stay by him admiring the car and awesome sound and then he hits it..No 3 honks or anything. Just BAM!!!!

    He gets a car or two on me from me punching the pedal late and then it's on....

    My first thought when I hit it was WOW..He's not pulling any more!!!!!!!!

    We stayed that way with him around 1.5 cars in front of me till around 90 mph....I THOUGHT, MAN THIS SUCKS IM GONNA LOOSE....GOOD THING I SPENT THAT EXTRA 25 GRAND FOR THE SAME ENGINE............................................ .................................................. ..................................................


    But then somthing unexpected happenned....around 90 mph I started to gain on him....By 95 mph Im at his rear..By 105 mph were side by side...And by 120 mph Im a solid 1-2 cars in front of him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


    We were then coming up on a quick curve and both shut down. I COULDNT BELEAVE IT...I HAD JUST EDGED OUT THE ALMIGHTY SS CAMARO!!!!!!!!!!


    It's one of those memories that I will never forget...Both are cars were white and I actualy dont remeber seeing any one else on the road the hole race. It was like it happened in slow motion. Especialy the part when I started pulling from his rear to his front...

      Top end is where the vette edges out over the fbodies. It just slices through the air, while Fbodies are like brickwalls at those speeds. It's also considerably lighter as well.

        by the way what your best 1/8 mile trap and ET ?

        mine is 8.0599 @ 87MPH (1.92 60 foot)(10.5 psi) and best MPH of 90.18 (2.1 60 foot)

          Mine is only 8.5 and 86 or 87 mph...But my track is very slow..

          Stock 2002 Z06's run 13.0 at 109-111 at my track for a best..vipers run 12.8 at 110-112 mph for a best atmy track....

          Our track is always about a 1/2 second slower than tracks in the mainland..

          Just look at the whooping 15.1 for my powerdyned V6 camaro as a best...

          But even at your track I think Id still only be around 8.1 and 89 mph through the 1/8..

          Still slower than you...Ive only got 370 rwhp though....

          My 8.5 is on street tires...So if your track is one of the faster ones ( compared to mine) where stock 2002 z06's can run 12.5's....I might be able to hit a 7.9 at your track on slicks..

          But even if I could edge you out through the 1/8 mile at your track with me on slicks..

          Id never touch you through the 1/4...

          My 109 mph 1/4 at my track would probaly only be a 112 mph run at your track...

          I think that your gonna be around 115-120 mph when you get to a 1/4 mile track..

          So it's really no contest...

          IM GONNA NEED SOME AFR HEADS TO KEEP UP WITH YOU AND THAT BEASTE.

            oH btw MY BEST 60 FTS ARE 2.093..Not to badd for street tires and a 2.73 IRS rear end

              yeah i'm getting to 1/4 mile soon as the rear is fixed :D

                Viper what are you looking to trap in the 1/4? I'm guessing in the mid 120s

                The feeling of being able to run with big cars is great. Its weird when all of a sudden you realize that you can run with 350Zs and GTs actually.

                    8.55 1/8
                    87.5 mph

                    13.0 at 108 mph

                            yEA WHEN YOUR ON THIS BOARD FOR A FEW YEARS THE ls1 CAMARO , becomes an Legend...

                            To actauly beat one after reading here for so long and driving a V6 camaro before hand is just a feeling that is really hard to explain....


                            Whats surprising is that no matter what board your on..

                            weather it's the 350Z board or BMW board...The LS1 camaro always has legendary status..

                              I remember my first race with an LS1 in the mustang. It was a 04 GTO.....with heads and cam, and walked me like I was back in my V6. That f*cker had like 2 bus lengths in me by 60 :(

                              Then a few days later, I tore a LT1 Z28 a new one, and felt better :D
