  • Killed by Mid 80's RX-7..I think

On my way home from school I see what I thought as just a ricer. This car looked like pos. We are on a straight and he floors it and takes off. We get beside each other at the next light. He revs and we go through that whole deal..he got a good junp off the line because the arrows changed the same time as my light did which never happens and it caught me off guard, I wasnt even looking. I heard him spinning so thats when I went lol. Anyway, once he hit 3rd gear I could tell he was pretty much gone so I shut down around 75-ish. Cought back up to him and gave hime a thumbs up and he waved.

Now, I'm not really sure what this was. It was very old I know it was a hatchback from the mid-80's. It had no badging of any sort. When he revved if I didnt know any better I would have thought he was an 8. I got on google and im pretty sure it was an RX-7. I dont know what he had swapped in there, but it sure was fast.

Yeah. Well I hate rice just as much as the next guy, but this thing sounded really good. It was like a deep rumble. It wasnt ricey at all, I kinda wish my car sounded like that.

Really? Well if thats the case I should be proud I was able to keep up with him. A 350 in that light of a car? That sounds insane...and sweet. I might have to look into this.

If it had a little scoop on the hood, it was a turbo, if not, just the stock 1.3L rotary.

Aside from the exhaust note, they are a bit quicker becuase they are lighter.

i doubt its to common with mid 80s RX7s though.

around here we get alot of older rx7's and tons of 280z's with 350's dropped in them. Most are pretty fast.

                            There is a guy I know with a ragging looking 80's RX7.

Has a 350 under the hood and runs 12's. He has a single "shinny" exhaust tip out the back and its hella quite.

Runs 12.50's. A V8 can be easily disguisted in one.

People swap LS1s into RX7s, Miatas, 300zs all the time. There's a company somewhere that sells a kit for an RX7, and I've heard most everything bolts right up.
