  • Performance upgrades quiestion.

So I am planning on autocrossing this year and got some upgrades for the suspension. I have tubelar rear control arms, control arm relocation brackets and full subframe connectors... problem is the relocation brackets dont fit once the subframe connectors are installed. The seem to want to occupy the same space... Anyone have to deal with this issue????

The real issue is that tubular control arms are for drag racing. The aftermarket ones don't have the flex that the factory ones do and give it the effect of an extremely oversized rear sway bar.

THe LCA relocation brackets are only needed if you have the car lowered, and are still more aimed at drag racing.

The control arms are not the issue. The rear mounting of the subframe connectors slides over the factory oem mount for the rear control arms. Problem is the LCA brackets also are supposed to slide over the same mount so... unless i spread one of the mounts open a bit, it wont fit.
I will attempt the install this weekend so... i will try to snap some pics.

          Are they bolt-on SFCs?

You do know that relco brackets go on the axle, not the sub frame

Happens to the best of us. We're not true automotive DIYs until we do something dumb.

Just be glad you ended-up finding out in time. You'd have had a heck of a time with those brackets on the rear lower arms' pick-up points rather than the axle.

Not only would the suspension geometry be totally FUBAR but those brackets would drag over all kinds of stuff like speed bumps, driveways and etc.

Indeed. That's why I asked... Not a fan of FUBAR. Especially when its a suspension issue. LoL Those tend to escalate rather quickly.

If you're going to autocross you might want to take a look at what we did with the Tom Henry RS project Camaro as far as suspension and handing.

The same set-up we had with maybe bigger stablizer bars to increase roll stiffness even more would work great.

                    Take a look at:
                    http://www.camarohomepage.com/project/part4.htm
                    and
                    http://www.camarohomepage.com/project/part5.htm

Also, the comment in the post above about tubular rear arms being only for drag racing is not based on fact. Reality is you want the stiffest suspension parts you can get if you're going to autoX or road race.
