Quick question, I'm getting my headers sometime soon and I was wondering if I could just put them on and then run the car like that? If so, how long can I safely do it?
I don't really care if it's illegal, I don't think I'll get in trouble.

Open headers are really loud. I drove around with them for a couple days. I had a decent power increase. the SLP loudmouth flows almost as well as open headers.

you might get some flames and stuff.
I don't think our cars are really designed to run open headers... I would go open y-pipe to be safe. I know you can damage the car running no headers, not sure if our cars are safe with just headers tho.
I had the pacesetters y-pipe and could barely get the car going....my low end torque was horrible and it was so loud it shook the whole car about 2k RPM. I'm glad I only had to go 2 miles through town to the exhaust shop.

It is possible to bend valves if there isn't enough back pressure....mostly only happens on 4 cylinders.

yea i really wouldnt suggest running open like that...deff kills power and sounds like donkey crap.

the O2 sensor hooks up to the headers.. open headers mean you don't have any other piping after the headers... still have the headers on tho [img]tongue.gif[/img] If you ran without headers it would mess your motor up and you'd be up sh8t creek.

It is possible to bend valves if there isn't enough back pressure....mostly only happens on 4 cylinders. </font>[/QUOTE]bent valves from runing open headers is not because of the lack of backpressure, it is because after the exhaust pulse has dicipated cold (relative to the temp of the exhaust) air contacts the valves and warps them from the rapid contrast in temperatures
