• 2.5" or 3" High flow cat?!? Help!

Ok. I am thinking about getting a new cat to replace the OEM one. Would you guys recommend the 2.5" or the 3". I was thinking of going with the Dynomax Super Converter. Please let me know what you all think.

The stock cat is a 3" inlet with a 2.25" outlet. I would recommend using a replacement with a 3" inlet, as it will be easier to install.

if I were going to do that I would just go ahead and go with a 3 inch exhaust all the way back, just let an exhaust shop bend it for ya.. I konw there are alot of arguments out there about 2.5 vs 3 inch so that's just my $.02

so you went with a 3" cat and 2.75" for the piping? Thats what I planned to do. Get a 3" cat and keep my 2.5" pipes.

I'm due in for replacing my cat too. Right now I just have a Dynomax with 2.5" tails (muffler back) i've been considering on how to do this. Replace my Y-pipe (i have a pinging sound sometimes) hi flow 3" inlet cat 3" outlet, followed by a cutout, and do 3" from the cat back to the muffler then put a 2.5" adapter to go into the mufflr and just leave the tails 2.5". Are 3" tails really going to make a differece? I'd be a pain in the *** and look stupid with the adapters on them, lol. Would it run better with 3" cat back or should i leave it with 2.5" the size of my muffler, any opinions?

Well I think that besides the cat, 3" piping would be alittle to big and make your car lose back pressure. I think 2.5" should be sufficient.

you gain more HP with less back pressure but you lose low end torque.

There is a balance on every motor as to how extreme you should go, exhaust mods should usually be done in a moderate fashion.

A 3in 3out Cat would help improve flow greatly as well as getting rid of the stock s bend coming out of the cat.

The less curves the more flow even a single outlet muffler is better than a dual outlet muffler.

I have also heard the with the 6's, you need a little back pressure (unlike big bother). I don't think I would bother with the 3'off the cat, the 2.5' should be sufficient. However, the 3' tailpipes could modify the exhaust note resinence and give it a low "throaty" note. Post your decision and which product you end up using. I have good experience with SLP, and a buddy of mine has used Borla and Flowmaster (on two different Camaros), both with a good sound. (He liked the Borla more, but Flowmaster is a little less expensive and acording to him"gives more bang for the buck."

You do know I am just talking about the cat itself right?!? Not the whole muffler.
