• replacing front speakers on a 94

I'm trying to replace the front speakers on a 94 firebird w/ "premium" factory system. I can pop the screens off, but I can't access the screws that hold the speaker in. I tried to pop the passenger side panel (the black part on beige/grey interiors, just under the arm rest) and ended up tearing it half way off. I'm going to have to replace that side, but I'd like to avoid doing the same to the driver's side. any pointers? thanks!

I have a 94 Camaro, but it might be a little different. First, you have to remove the crank for the window if it isn't electric. Just pull it out as far as you can, and remove the retaining clip with a needlenose pliers. Next, you have to take that little triangle off above the door panel(where the mirror control is). It just screws off. Also, you have to pull the two long bolts from the arm rest, and the one on the bottom. Then, where the handle is on the inside, you have to take off the inside piece. Simply unscrew all of the screws, then pull it out a little, and pop the door lock off of the post. It just snaps onto a thin metal rod inside the door. After that you take off the little square plastic piece that the electric controls are mounted in. If you have electric windows, you have to disconnect the wire harness. Then just lift up on the entire door panel(back first I think) and it will lift up and pull out. It is easier than it sounds. It really only takes a few minutes. Just be carefull when you are pullin off the panel, don't break off any of the clips on the back of the door. Chilton manual shows it very well. Good luck, and expect to cut the $hit out of your hands.

Yep, you need to take the panels off.

I myself ripped mine when I was very unexperienced about 4 years ago... and need to replace it now. I changed my front stock 6.5's with my rear stock 6.5's, and it sounds way better(it was meant to be the car's bass speaker).

You have to remove the door panels to get to them. There are 2 other current topics on this subject and can be seen here with pointers and detailed instructions. Nothing personal but there's no need for 3 active topics on the same subject.
