  • Tranny Cooler Questions/Fittings

So I was bored today, and bought a off name brand tranny cooler( ok point the finger and laugh) Question.... SInce most of these coolers DONT come with install kits, what fittings are you guys using? I bought a Imperial from Advanced. I had a nicer one in mind, just not in the card right now as in Money.

I am curious as where to put it also. My intercooler is angled right under the nose( bottom of radiator, looks bad *** I think with W68 appearence :) ) Ive seen how crazy others get, so I welcome the ideas.

Make sure you use tranny cooler line from like Nappa or something, if you use reg. line it will split do to the heat.

3/8ths rubber fuel line and some gear clamps will do the trick.

Where do you live? if you live up north you should run it with the factory cooler as it could get to cool in the winter and not come up to operating temps.

I zip tied mine to the lower rad support behind the rad and used the push through ones that go through your rad for the top mount.

        Re: Tranny Cooler Questions/Fittings

I refuse to use rubber hoses and clamps on transmission coolers. Sooner or later, they WILL come off or break. I use -6AN stainless braided hose for all of my cooler installs (I work at a performance shop and have installed a lot of transmission coolers). I prefer to put a -6AN fitting on the transmission and run the braided line all the way to the cooler and back. Where that is not possible/practical, I have used a 3/8" compression fitting to -6AN adapter (like this) on the factory hard lines and ran my braided lines from there. You can also use the compression fittings on the cooler to put a -6AN end on it but I prefer to use a cooler that already has AN fittings on it. Flex-a-lite makes some nice ones that are very reasonably priced.
