    To install my cam on my 2000 firebird, do I need to take off the cylinder heads?

    No. But you'll need to take off the valve covers, etc. etc. Good luck with that considering the engine lift brackets that are mounted to the heads can be a pita to get off.

            This may be a dumb question but how do you get the valve springs out without taking heads off? Or am I mistaken? The how-to doesn't say anything about it.

              To remove the valve springs use a air tool to compress the cyl. then while the chamber is pressurized remove the spring and replace it with the newer spring. Then on to the next one. You use the spark plug hole to pressurize the cyl.

                like stated above...its not hard, just make sure you torque everything to spec and take your time...

                2002 SOM Z28 Camaro - 12.9 @ 104 mph

                      No, there is nothing to break loose. You will just use a valve spring compressor tool to push down on the spring and take out the little retainers which hold the spring to the valve stem with a magnet pen or similar tool. Then the spring pops off the valve stem.

                      The point of using an air compressor is to create pressure in the cylinder so the valve doesn't fall into it, you're not pressurizing the spring with it. 115k mile springs should come out as easy as any other mile springs.
