  • A real man's car

I bought a red 1990 Miata. Pics to come when I fix the camera.

    I also bought an LS1 and a T56.

    Catch my drift?

Its been done before, its just going to take forever and a day, because every part has to be custom made and or modified to fit the car. If memory serves, when the project is done, there is no room for anything else in that Miata's engine bay.

Very true. I need to cut into the firewall just to make room for it, and I'll have to beat on the wheel wells to space the compartment out another 4 inches. This is a huge undertaking, but I think it will be the perfect sleeper.

7's have a reputation already with the 13b, and I'd hate to take out that beautiful engine. A Miata starts with a 2100lb body. Typical LS1 Camaros weigh somewhere around 3500lb-3700lb. Put the 315hp engine in a 2100lb car and make it look stock is something I want to do. Its like what Shelby did with the old Cobra, and what Panoz does with a few of its cars. Light projects with a big engine.

13b? beautiful engine? they're crap, why else would rx7 owners swap to lsx's to make real power. once they blow a apex seal theres no point in fixing them.

Yes, I dont blame them for wanting more power. I only say they are beautiful for the concept of the engine. Its...different. I like different.

Back on subject, this is going to be about a $6000 project. This is the stuff I already have. The rest will make it add up to about 6k.
                  1990 Miata shell - $700 (scrap yard)
LS1 (cammed, port and polished, hooker heads) - $1500
                  T56 (rebuilt) - $850
                  Monster Miata radiator - $500
                  Fly'n Miata rear end (4:10 gears) - $900 I got this from a friend

The hard part will be making the engine mounting hardware. It will all have to be custom made. I'll be keeping it without power steering to save a bit of space.

get a crappy muffler or it'll give you away.

I agree Rx7 is much cooler... but even engineless RX7s are like $6-8k
