  • Is there any good way to paint plastic?

Ive got an old dirtbike I bought that im fixing up to re-sell.

Its been baked in the sun for a long time, and the plastics are faded to sh!t...

Instead of buying new plastics for it, (hard to find and not cheap)

I was thinking about painting them...

They have small sun damage brittle plastic cracks and I was going to put some bondo over it and sand it smooth, then paint it.

Ive heard that the Plastic fusion spray paint sucks, I want it to look nice.

    Any idea's or advice?

I've heard the Fusion paint works really really well. I'd buy a can and try it out. You might also be able to just take some rubbing compound and polishing compound and shine the plastics back up.

i dont know who told you the fusion stuff didnt work, but they probably didn't use it right. I used it to paint a plastic stock on an airsoft gun, worked wonderfully.

there is this plactic rattle can paint they sell at home depot. its INCREDIBLE. leaves a really durable long lasting SHINY finish. its like $7 a can and requires no prep work. if you do prep work it only makes it that much better. i painted my speaker covers red with it and they look like they came from the factory red, its awesome.

Do you want it to look like new plastic, or do you want it to look like (more like) car paint?

If you want it to look like new plastic, there is a can out by SEM that is a plastic paint..i think the color is "honda black" or "honda bumper black." It bonds very well to the plastic and makes it look brand new.

I'd use model paint. That's good for plastic.
