  • So who here has an oil leak and who here doesn't?

I always have to make sure I have a cardboard under my Bird, because my Bird has droppings after I drive it.

Back then when I first bought it brand new I was told by this mechanic not to put synthetic oil, because it would make it leak. Well I didn't listen and I've been putting Mobile Syn. and Royal Purple and its been leaking for over 10 years now.

For my 89 Bird I only use regular Mobile and it has no leak at all.

I've been told that oil leak is pretty typical anyway for Fbodies regardless which type of oil you use.

I wonder if this is true. Who among us here have oil leak and who doesn't. I thought I do a poll so we could see the percentage.

Rear main seal :( Most of it burns off the y-pipe though.

No oil leaks for me. If anything starts leaking, I repair it. No leak at all (oil, coolant, exhaust, vacuum, etc) is "typical" or "normal" no matter what kind of fluids you're using.

Ha, owning a gm car where nothing leaks is unheard of. Only thing mine doesn't leak is coolant right now. It seeps trans fluid, dif fluid, oil, and power steering fluid. Nothing major though.

I didnt vote cause my 99 Camaro doesn't have a leak but my 00 Camaro has a rear main seal leak. I run Valvoline full synthetic it both of them, since day one.

If it stops leaking its time to add a quart or two....
It doesnt leak, it marks its territory.....
I call my car the "BP oil rig".....

My bird leaks, from the trans, power steering, engine, everything. However, the motor was $350, and everything has 15 years on it.

I don't mind, it leaks less than my Turbo Buick.

My Camaro sweats out the pan gasket. Drops ½qt in 3k miles.

I guess rear main oil seal is pretty typical then.

From what I hear it is. It drives my "fix everything" crazy to have a leak, but I don't have the tools or know-how to do this job myself nor the money to have it done for me, shops want 1000+ to do it.

                            Neither Camaros leak...

My 2000 has had nothing done to it, oil leak wise, has 121k.

My 1985 apparently had a rear main seal and valve cover leak, also the valveguides leaked. He took it somehwere and paid someone to fix it up, and replaced the valve guides, no leaks, no smoking. Guy probably paid a small fortune for all that, and I have no clue why for an LG4. I bet if he spent an extra $600 or so he could have bought a 350 crate motor. LOL
