My Firebird recently had its 12th birthday. It came off the assembly line in September 1993. I have owned it for 8 of those 12 years, and we've seen more than 100k miles together. Although far from being a show-quality car, it still turns plenty of heads, and frequently nets compliments. Mechanically-speaking, it is in far better condition today than it ever has been. This is not to say that it has ever been problematic, just the opposite in fact, a testament to the adage that if you take care of your car, it will take care of you.
I have made many modifications to the car including appearance, suspension, braking and performance enhancements. GM WS6 hood, ram-air box, Formula - T/A taillights, and 17" ZR1 replica wheels round out the looks department, while 32/19mm 1LE swaybars, poly bushings, SLP level 2 springs and KYB AGX shocks assist with handling. The brakes have been upgraded at all 4 corners, the fronts to 98+ 12" rotors and dual-piston aluminum calipers, the rears with the 93-97 style 11.5" rotors and single-piston aluminum calipers. To give the car a little more git-up-and-go I've installed the ASP underdrive pulley set, Hypertech 180° thermostat, Hypertech Power Programmer, MSD Blaster coils and Superconductor wires, Magnaflow 3" cat and cat-back, Hurst Billet Plus shifter, Spicer 2.75" aluminum driveshaft and 3.42 gears with an Auburn LSD. Future changes could include a lower gear ratio, headers and possibly even some internal engine work. I certainly have no immediate plans to part with the car, I hope we have many more years together.
